Obituary for Jerry J. Pryor

Jerry J. Pryor, 76, of Holmen passed away unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, November 3, 2018. He was born in Chicago, Ill. on February 5, 1942 to Joseph and Marie (Verbiar) Pryor. He moved to Island Lake with his family where he loved to hunt and fish. They later moved to Holmen, graduating from Holmen High School in 1960 and was an original member of the varsity football team. On August 20, 1966, Jerry married Joyce Clark.
Jerry attended Western Tech College, specializing in tool & die making and followed his dad to Trane Co. There he would work in the Tool Room for 52 years. He served as a First Aide Attendant for many of those years.
Jerry served as a Village of Holmen Board Trustee for 20 years and worked to create the Holmen Police Department for many of those years. He was also a volunteer fireman & first responder for the Village of Holmen. He retired after 30 years of service as a Captain.
Jerry worked as a part time bus driver for the school district of Holmen and loved to talk to the kids on his route or trips that he drove.
He was an avid hunter and was a lifelong member of Holmen Rod & Gun Club, Gunslick Gun Club, the NRA and he enjoyed teaching hunter safety and spending time with the kids. Some of his favorite memories were of hunting trips to Wyoming with one of his best friends, John Gaarder. He also went on trips to Canada and Alaska. His trips to Alaska were special because of the time he spent with his brother, Roger. He also enjoyed anything and everything to do with flying. He has flown in everything from a hot air balloon to a float plane.
Jerry loved to be busy and camping was always an adventure. He loved to tell stories and share jokes with anyone he could find. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joyce; daughters, Tammy (Bill Butteris) Christopherson of Sextonville and Laura (Boyd) Grant of West Salem; grandchildren, Ben (Al Chesky) Christopherson of Superior, WI., Craig Christopherson of Madison, WI., Kyle Christopherson of Minnetonka, MN., and Donovan Grant of West Salem; and his siblings, Audrey (Larry) Johnson of Ettrick, Andrea (Paul) Harkins of Marshfield; and Roger (Jan) Pryor of Seattle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister-in-law, Judy Pryor; and a niece, Lorilei Eoriatti.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 9, 2018 at Holmen Lutheran Church, 228 Morris Street. Pastor Allison Cobb will officiate and burial will be in Greenmound Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and again on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
