Arne Leif Marking, 85, passed away at Gunderson Medical Center, La Crosse, WI January 7, 2018. He was born to Adolph and Esther (Kirkeeng) Marking April 14, 1932 in Halfway Creek, WI. He was baptized at Halfway Creek Lutheran Church and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Fish Creek Lutheran Church, Cashton, WI in 1946.
Arne began his education at Maple Shade School and graduated from Cashton High School in 1950. He continued his education at Western Technical College taking courses in agriculture and farm business and production management. He also studied German and for some years taught Sunday School and was trained as a teacher of the Bethel Bible Series.
His generous support of the farming community and agricultural causes was recognized widely . He was chosen for the 2004 Distinguished Service to Agriculture Award by the La Crosse County Farm Bureau. His 63 years of farming-- first with his father and later on his own-- resulted in many area young people gaining part-time employment and exposure to farming under Arne's tutelage. The West Salem FFA. awarded Arne with their Honorary Chapter FFA Degree for 2008-2009..
Arne spent his life as a dairy farmer until his retirement in 2010 due to illness He resided at Clare Bridge since 2013 and always appreciated the care he received there as well as the many visits of his family, friends, and Pastor Jon Schmidt.
Arne is survived by two sisters: Anne (Myrvin) Christopherson, Decorah, IA and Ingrid (Gary) Wynveen, Appleton, WI. He is also survived by his sister-in- law, Norma Marking, Mpls., MN and his brother-in-law, Stanley Sollie, Carlsbad, CA. Nine nieces and nephews loved visiting Arne on the farm over the years and he cherished their visits: Sarah Fischer, Naomi (Kurt) Junge, Elizabeth Sollie, Kirsten (John) Clark, Berit (Aaron) Achenbach, Bjorn Christopherson, Nisse Christopherson, Neil (Sarah) Wynveen, and Nathan (Elizabeth) Wynveen. He also is survived by sixteen grand nieces and nephews..
In addition to his parents Arne was preceded in death by his brother Ralph, a sister, Dagny Sollie, and nephew Chad Marking.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 359 Leonard Street South, West Salem. Pastor Jonathan Schmidt will officiate and burial will be in Hamilton Cemetery, West Salem. Viewing and visitation with the family will be held before the service starting at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, West Salem, Gundersen Medical Foundation, 1836 South Avenue, La Crossse, or to donor's choice.
